Jay M. Ansell, Ph.D. DABT

Vice President, Personal Care Products Council

Dr Ansell joined the Personal Care Products Council (formerly CTFA) in May 2006 and is Vice President - Cosmetic Programs where he is responsible for providing technical support for the Council staff and various committees and task forces addressing the science and regulation of personal care products.


Dr. Ansell came to the Council from Yves Rocher, a France-based personal care products company, where he served as Director of North American Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs. He previously has been Vice President of Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs at two international specialty chemical companies.


Dr. Ansell has been an invited speaker on topics including safety and risk assessment; he was founder and president of the Council for Advance Agricultural Formulations, leads the Council’s nanotechnology activities, currently serves as Chairman and Administrator of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 217 – Cosmetics, and is past President of the International Society of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology.


Trained as a chemist, Dr. Ansell received his B.A. from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and an M.S. from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. He completed his graduate studies at Binghamton University – the State University of New York where he was granted a PhD for his work on novel synthetic routes to bioactive materials and was first certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology in 1986.

Denis Wahler, Ph.D.

Givaudan Active Beauty

An experienced manager for collaborative research and development, Denis is in charge of Technology Partnerships within the Active Beauty business unit of Givaudan. Prior to this role, he was Business Development Manager in biocatalysis and metagenomics at Libragen, before the acquisition of the company by Givaudan in 2015. Libragen has since become the Applied Microbiomics Centre of Excellence of Givaudan Active Beauty. Graduated from a PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Bern, Switzerland, Denis specialized in applied research and contract services in white biotechnology and green chemistry at Proteus/PCAS Biosolution, where he served as Head of R&D and Scientific Manager for many years. Prior to joining Libragen, he also spent one and a half year at SEPPIC (Air Liquide Group) as Head of the Synthesis Department.

Gay C. Timmons

Owner, Oh, Oh Organic Inc.

Gay Timmons owns and operates Oh, Oh Organic, Inc., an organic and specialty ingredient distribution and consulting company founded in 2000. Oh, Oh is committed to the development and delivery of sustainable agricultural ingredients for the cosmetic and personal care industries.


Over the past 18 years she has supported the development and growth of hundreds of organic and natural cosmetic brands.


Her first career was as the first American woman to manage vessel operations, loading and unloading cargo on the Oakland and San Francisco waterfronts.


Since 1991, she has worked as a producer and marketer of organic ingredients and an advocate for regulatory clarity for organic and natural producers and consumers. Her introduction to the field began as a ten-year job co-managing an organic farm and production facility. She served as the Chair of the California Organic Products Advisory Committee, serving on that committee for eleven years. During this period she was instrumental in writing and advocating for the Calif. Organic Products Act of 2003 which regulates organic claims on cosmetics. She also served as Secretary on the Calif. Certifiers of Organic Farms Board of Directors and Chair of their Processor Chapter for twelve years. Today she is a founding member and President of the Natural and Organic Health and Beauty Alliance, an international trade association.


Gay graduated from UC Davis, has an MS in Physiology and lives in Point Richmond with an organic recording engineer and entrepreneur. She has two organic daughters, one in college and one valiantly working!

Nava Dayan, Ph.D.

Nava Dayan Ph.D. Pharm has 28 years of experience in skin care segment and has yielded more than 150 publication credits in numerous industry-respected journals and in four books. She has been awarded the In-Cosmetics Gold Award for innovation and commensurate recognition from the NYSCC and the CRS for excellence.  Dr. Dayan is the owner of Dr. Nava Dayan L.L.C, a skin science and research consultancy serving the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and personal care industries; dermal and transdermal. Dr. Dayan advises on product feasibility in skin care, composition of R&D plans covering efficacy and toxicology; planning, execution and data interpretation into claims, formulations, delivery for improved efficacy and attenuated toxicity.  Sample of expertise includes:  drug-skin interaction, bio-markers (genomics and proteomics), skin/age related sensitivities, inflammatory skin disorders, innate immunity and biota. Jennifer Stansbury

She has developed and executed customized research and beauty product testing for companies including:  Algenist, BareEscentuals, Dollar Shave Club, NARS, Murad, Patchology, Bioelements, JeNu, Glamglow, Mary Kay, Wet n’Wild and Scalisi Skincare to name a few.   


Jennifer has published numerous articles on beauty topics and is an experienced speaker on topics ranging from beauty trends to entrepreneurship, writing for leading trade publications including GCI, Happi, and Beauty Packaging News and presenting at industry trade events including Cosmoprof, Innocos, HAPPI Skincare Conference and HBA.  

Kelly A. Dobos

Sun Chemical Corporation

Kelly A. Dobos is a cosmetic chemist with expertise in both skin care and color cosmetic formulation. She is the cosmetics technical manager at Sun Chemical Corporation where she is a key technical liaison with cosmetic research and development groups in North and South America. She graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelors degree in chemistry and obtained a Master of Science in pharmaceutical sciences with an emphasis in cosmetic science from the James L Winkle College of Pharmacy (WCOP) at the University of Cincinnati. She is a recent recipient of the GOLD (Graduate of the Last Decade) Distinguished Alumni Award from the WCOP.


Kelly has served the Society of Cosmetic Chemists in numerous roles at the local and national level including Chapter Chair, Area II Director, National Treasurer, Executive Committee, Committee of Scientific Affairs (COSA), and Committee on Chapter Affairs (COCA), Constitution & Bylaws Committee, Nominations & Elections Committee, and the Editorial Review Committee for Journal of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.  Kelly is the Society’s current Vice President-Elect and will assume the role of President in 2019

Lin Corte


Lin Corte is in charge of BIOLANDES North American office. Graduated with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, he has spent the last 10 years in the industry of natural extracts.

He was first in charge of the logistics of one of the main botanical extraction facility in the USA before joining the sales team in charge of the food and nutraceutical market. He finally joined BIOLANDES 4 years ago and now leads their operations in North America.

Created in 1980 in the southwest of France, BIOLANDES is a world leader for the production of essential oils for the fragrance, cosmetic, well-being and flavor industries. BIOLANDES owns and runs 12 facilities and 4 organic farms in Africa and Europe.

Shannon Hess

Associate Director - Responsible Sourcing, Burt's Bees

Shannon Hess joined Burt’s Bees in 2010 to expand the brand’s commitment to responsible sourcing and supply chain transparency. Shannon has nearly 20 years of experience in global natural cosmetics. Prior to joining Burt’s Bees, Shannon spent a decade in R&D at Aveda, focused on formulation, raw material and fragrance ingredient sourcing. She holds biology and chemistry degrees, and her journey in the natural and organic cosmetic industry has taken her around the world, including living in Italy and Egypt.
