Fermentation: Traditional Technology Marches Forward
While fermentation can be argued to be one of man’s oldest technologies; the chemical breakdown of substances by microbes continues to drive cosmetic trends. Starting with the adoption of faex,
yogurt, acidophilus, LYCD and advancing to todays’ fascination with biofermented plant materials; the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries embrace of fermentation technology continues to grow.
Global interest in Green and Sustainable chemistries will likely fuel continued investment in fermentation technologies. Ongoing discoveries into the skin’s microbiome structure and function will
continue to inform and shape fermentation application research. This presentation will provide an overview of the subject and prognosticate on where it may lead in the near future.
